Towson Motorcyclist Killed in Four-Vehicle Accident After Motorist Fails to Yield

In a tragic accident that occurred recently on Route 50, a Maryland woman was killed when another driver failed to yield the right of way to the motorcyclist, causing a four-vehicle accident. According to a report by Delmarva Now, the accident occurred around 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon near the intersection of Route 50 and Rockawalkin Road.

Evidently, the motorcyclist was heading east on Route 50 when another motorist driving a Toyota Solara attempted to make a left-hand turn in front of the motorcyclist to head east on Route 50. However, since the driver of the Toyota failed to yield the right-of-way to the motorcyclist, and instead cut her off, she was left with no choice but to crash into the Toyota.

The motorcyclist was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and died a short time later. Although it is unclear what happened, the accident involved two other vehicles, although the drivers of those vehicles did not suffer serious injuries.

The police immediately began work on an investigation into the cause of the accident and an accident scene reconstruction. Pending the results of their investigation, the driver of the Toyota may be cited for her role in the fatal motorcycle accident.

Start Seeing Motorcycles!

Of all the motorcycle accidents we see on an annual basis, the vast majority involve a motorist failing to yield the right-of-way to a motorcyclist. For whatever reason, other drivers have a difficult time seeing motorcyclists on the road and providing them the room they need to safely operate their motorcycles.

Motorcyclists are often blamed for accidents, but the truth is that they are less often at fault than most people think. Legally speaking, a motorcyclist cannot be held liable for an accident because he or she is on a motorcycle. Along those lines, neither can a damages award be lessened because the damages would not have been as high had the motorcyclist been driving a car. The bottom line is that motorcycles are treated exactly like other vehicles on the road in the eyes of the law.

Recovering Financially After a Motorcycle Accident

Understandably, financial recovery is not often the first thing on an accident victim’s mind. However, after the immediate stress of the accident wears off, and the medical bills start to come in, financial recovery may start to be a valid concern for accident victims. The best thing to do if you have been involved in a motorcycle accident is to speak with a dedicated Maryland motorcycle accident attorney.
